Apple is set to reveal a swathe of news and updates at its WWDC Developers Conference next week but the US technology firm has given fans a treat ahead of this major keynote.
It’s just been announced that a new iPod touch is hitting stores with this hugely popular device now getting more power and some useful extra features.
The revamped touch now packs the Apple-designed A10 Fusion chip under its colourful shell which will bring much faster speeds and improved performance.
Along with that extra grunt, Apple has now included the ability to access immersive augmented reality experiences and make Group FaceTime calls using the in-built cameras.
iPod touch also comes in a new 256GB capacity, which should end the nightmare of running low on space for your music and videos.
“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing.
“The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”
Owners will, of course, get access to Apple’s iOS software and this device will also be fully compatible with Apple Arcade which launches later this year.
Apple announced this subscription service in March with it offering 100 new and exclusive games with no ads or additional purchases, and the ability to download games for offline play.
There’s no release date for Apple Arcade but it looks set to be an exciting proposition for iPhone and iPod owners.
If you fancy buying one of these devices then the new iPod touch starts at £199 for the 32GB model, £299 for the 128GB model and £399 for the 256GB model from apple.com, in the Apple Store app and Apple Stores,
The new iPod touch models are available to order starting today.
As a reminder, WWDC kicks off on Monday, June 3 and expect plenty of news about what’s coming next to your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.
