Call of Duty Modern Warfare Season 1 is being extended on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Developers Infinity Ward made the announcement today, confirming that Season 2 won’t start until after February 11. The delay is happening so that a lot of additional content can be added to the game, which sounds like good news for fans. The reasoning is still a little vague but it does mean that the new Crossbow challenge can be launched for the extra days of waiting.
And it’s easy to see why, considering that this is the first game to be supported by a Battle Pass rather than DLC map packs.
The extension will mean a longer wait time for Season 2, which is rumoured to include a new Battle Royale mode.
But it will also give players a lot longer to unlock all the rewards available to them through the Battle Pass and other parts of the game.
Infinity Ward confirmed the Seasonal changes on its website, revealing: “Over the next few weeks, a host of new items and challenges will arrive, including an in-game Challenge to earn the new Crossbow weapon, more remixed game modes, new playlists, and more in the Store to discover.
“To make room for all that activity, we are making a one-time extension of Season One – it’s now ending on February 11.
“During that time, there will be 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tier Progression to help you finish up your Officer Ranks and Tiers, and get you ready for an exciting Season Two.”
Announcing an extension to COD MW Season 1 alongside new content will certainly make the wait easier for fans.
We don’t know exactly when the new Crossbow will arrive but it seems likely that we will start hearing about it very soon.
And this wasn’t the only COD news announced this week, with the free Call of Duty Mobile game also seeing a big update with the launch of Season 3.
