UPDATE ONE: Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed their plans to release a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update on Wednesday, December 18.
The new COD download is expected to launch at around 6pm GMT, and will add classic maps like Vacant and Shipment, as well as a new multiplayer mode, Cranked.
A range of other changes are also planned including a few map makeovers for the holiday season, with Activision telling fans: “The Holidays will come to Docks, the Gunfight map, in the form of a thematic re-skin: Over Winter. Battle through tension and now twinkling lights in this map full of cheer.”
More news on the Call of Duty Modern Warfare update will be revealed tomorrow, via official patch notes shared on social media platforms.
ORIGINAL: This week will see new Call of Duty Modern Warfare updates made to certain areas of the game.
Activision has chosen to run the latest COD release on a mode schedule, meaning that different bits of content are available for short periods.
A good example of this is the launch of Infected Mode and Gunfight O.S.P., a variant of the 2v2 Gunfight mode where players must scavenge for weaponry.
These were added to the game on December 10 and are scheduled to leave on December 18.
And that means that more content is coming to the game this week, as revealed by Activision.
We don’t know exactly what Infinity Ward has planned or when it might drop.
Tuesday has become the day to watch out for updates but there’s a chance that it could happen on Wednesday or Thursday too.
With some limited-time modes disappearing on December 18, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new patch go live tomorrow (Dec 17), followed by a playlist change on Wednesday.
But fans will have to keep an eye out for the latest news to find out what is being planned next.
What we do know is that new modes and maps are being planned for release in Call of Duty Modern Warfare this week.
Activision said as much in a recent blog post, hinting at its plans for the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
“As I mentioned in my last Rank Up Report, Season One has already brought a ton of new content to Modern Warfare, with more to come,” Activision’s James Mattone explains.
“For the content available now, I have yet to talk about the new Ground War map, the RAM-7, Special Ops experiences, and other new Multiplayer game modes… And there is even more content planned to be released including new maps and new modes next week.”
As ever, fans can expect some kind of announcement with any new update to Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
This will include Tweets from the development team covering what has changed, as well as full list of patch notes.
Patch notes are usually shared by the team as the new COD download goes live and will contain a summary of tweaks.
This will also include any new bug fixes that have been deployed, in both multiplayer mode and the story campaign.
When it comes to the new content being planned for COD in 2020, fans believe they have found plenty of news supporting the release of a new Battle Royale Mode.
Players have stumbled over a glitch that allows them to survey a massive new map, something that would work well for Battle Royale.
This was found while playing Spec Ops missions and isn’t something that Activision has announced yet.
Other reports suggest that Infinity Ward is planning to release a Battle Royale mode different to the one found in Black Ops 4.
This would include the usual blend of closing circles and weapon scavenging but would offer a higher player count.
Rumours suggest that Infinity Ward could be working on a Battle Royale mode that can host 200 players at once.
If Activision is planning to release a massive new Battle Royale mode, gamers can probably expect news about it in early 2020.
