UPDATE TWO: Facebook Messenger is still down and not working as of 5pm this evening.
One user in particular has taken to Twitter to show what the app looks like thanks to connectivity issues.
An image was displayed with the standard “messages”, “active”, “groups” and “calls” tabs, but underneath a white screen was presented.
There was no list of other active users or prior chats.
Facebook has not stated when Messenger is expected to be fixed for all users.
UPDATE ONE: A number of users have stated Facebook Messenger has been down for them all day.
A number of users have said the chatting app has been not working since as early as 9am today.
Reports started flooding into Down Detector at around the same time.
ORIGINAL STORY: Facebook Messenger is a hugely-popular messaging service and is only second to WhatsApp in terms of monthly users across the globe.
But today it appears the app have suffered from a number of issues that have prevented users from connecting.
Although Express.co.uk was still able to connect to the client, a number of users have insisted they are unable to access any messages or see if others are online.
One said: “Messenger has been down for the most part!
“Please fix it, it’s driving me mad not being to see if anybody is active and I’m also nervous in case nobody’s received any of the messages I’ve sent.”
A second declared: “Is anyone else’s Facebook messenger down or is it just mine?
“It’s not showing me people online when they are online?”
A third stated: “Does anyone else have any connectivity issues with Facebook Messenger?
“Mine isn’t working and is down.”
Independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered over 350 reports from users at one time insisting they are unable to use Facebook Messenger as normal.
And an outage map on the site has shown areas across the world that are experiencing issues.
The UK, US and much of Europe appears to be having issues with Facebook Messenger at the moment.
