A new rumour suggests that the Overwatch Anniversary event for 2020 will be kicking off in the coming days. It should be noted that this does not come from an official source but is a leak that has been shared online. It includes the news that a new patch will be arriving on the PTR servers next week (the week starting May 11) and that this year’s Anniversary event will also be arriving on the same day.
From what has been shared so far, the 2020 Overwatch Anniversary event release date has been set for Tuesday, May 12.
Like all the others, this will be when the new event and its cosmetics will be launched by Blizzard across all platforms.
The original source of this information comes from Reddit User Bloomer-OW, and was posted in the Competitive Overwatch section.
As mentioned above, Blizzard has yet to announce its plans for this year’s Anniversary event but it wouldn’t be surprising to find out just before its set to kick off.
No additional information was shared regarding what new cosmetics could be added next week on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Last year’s event kicked off on May 21 and had a June 10 end date scheduled. That means this year’s Overwatch celebration would be kicking off earlier than usual.
Unlike in 2019, Blizzard hasn’t given us a preview of what new cosmetics are being planned.
2019 designs included Gargoyle Winston and Academy D.Va, which were officially unveiled on Twitter.
The previews also included a look at some of the new dance emotes, as well as Legendary skin for Mei.
2019’s Overwatch event also included all the seasonal brawls being offered in rotations throughout the event, something which has a good chance of coming back in 2020.
More details covering 2019’s Anniversary event can be found below: “To celebrate Overwatch’s third anniversary, we’re adding a cavalcade of new skins, highlight intros, emotes, and sprays, plus making all seasonal brawls and items from past years available once again!
“That’s not all: log in between May 21 and June 10 to earn a Legendary Anniversary Loot Box containing at least one legendary item. Don’t miss Overwatch’s biggest anniversary celebration yet!
“Along with a slew of new skins, highlight intros, emotes, and sprays, Anniversary Loot Boxes have a chance to contain items from past Anniversary and seasonal events.
“Each purchase of the 50 Anniversary Loot Boxes bundle also includes a bonus Legendary Anniversary Loot Box containing at least one legendary item.
“In addition to earning Anniversary Loot Boxes by playing or purchasing them in the shop, unlock one Legendary Anniversary Loot Box just for logging in. Don’t wait too long: Anniversary Loot Boxes will vanish when the event ends on June 10.”
