PlayStation gamers can check out a number of new additions to the PSN this week, courtesy of Sony. One of the final free PS4 game bonuses of July is available to download now, offering a trial for a title launching later this year. Sony keeps the PlayStation Store refreshed with new content, with the start of the month usually proving one of the busiest times. This includes a new JRPG experience that will be released in 2020, with Cris Tales from Modus Games scheduled to launch in November. But the good news is that the Cris Tales Demo isn’t a timed release, meaning there is no current limit on how long you can enjoy it.
The new trial has been put in place to encourage people to buy the full version of the game and provides a snippet of gameplay.
There’s no firm description on how long the new trial lasts, but it should provide enough to give gamers a good insight into what to expect from the full experience.
The game is described as inspired by Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Valkyrie Profile, and modern classics like Bravely Default and Persona 5, which is a decent list to draw from.
Gamers will be able to meet and recruit a unique cast of teammates, challenge myriad enemies, and make their way through an expansive world.
The game will be launching on multiple platforms and sticks out from the crowd due to its hand-drawn 2D graphics.
The Cris Tales Demo description reads: “Discover a unique combination of branching stories, innovative combat, and classic RPG gameplay in Cris Tales’ exciting and unforgettable exploration of how our actions echo through time.
“Join the newly awakened Time Mage, Crisbell, and her fantastical companions in a fantasy world facing a grim future. The powerful Time Empress and her forces threaten to bring about a cataclysm tearing apart Crystallis and the other four Kingdoms of the region.
“To stop the Time Empress and rewrite the future of the land, you will embark on a harrowing journey across the kingdoms, meeting and recruiting powerful allies to aid in the fight.
“Master their abilities and Crisbell’s unique Time Magic to overcome mighty foes: send them into the past to face their weaker, younger selves; to the future where they’ve succumbed to all the damage of a poison applied in the present; or create your strategies in this one-of-a-kind combat system.
“Your choices in this world will have far-reaching consequences for everyone you meet. Peer into the past, act in the present and watch as your choices dynamically change the future — all on one screen as you play.
“The Empress’ plot to destroy the world is complex and layered. Use your wits and recruit powerful allies throughout the world to uncover and undo her multifaceted web and make your way to the True Ending of this enchanting tale.”
For those who don’t play JRPGs, there are other free game options coming to the PS4 Store very soon.
This week will see the launch of the Marvel’s Avengers open beta, with added game days available for those who preorder the game.
There will be different days when players can experience the new hero adventure, with the beta coming first to PlayStation 4.
This starts on August 7 with the PlayStation Advantage schedule, which is available for those who have preordered Marvel’s Avengers.
On August 14, the open beta begins and will be open to the entire PS4 community, followed by August 21, which will be the final weekend.
