Browse and Radio options have been cut from the main screen in favor of three buttons at the bottom, search will now recommend your favorite genres, and Endless Radio will give you more curated playlists.
Spotify’s Premium tier is getting a facelift and some new features to rework its search functionality, navigation, and artist radio, the company announced in a blog post.
“Endless Artist Radio,” as Spotify is calling it, is the most interesting new feature. After searching for a song or artist, Spotify will offer an infinite playlist of tracks that are similar to what you searched for, presumably using the same algorithm that Spotify’s other personalized playlists do.
These will be “updated regularly” so that it doesn’t get stale and can adapt to new artists. The infinite playlists can also be downloadeded for offline listening on your device. That’s a welcome feature, especially after Spotify raised the limit for offline downloads from 3,333 on three devices to 10,000 on up to five devices.
Feeding into that is a redesign of the Search page, which will now display Top Genres at the top of the screen based on the types of music listened to the most.
Spotify also cut down the number of tabs at the bottom of the screen so that you only have three: Home, Search, and Your Library. The Browse option has been integrated into the Search page as it mainly showed genre-based suggestions and personalized playlists. The Radio option now appears after you search for a particular song or artist.
These updates go live today globally and are available on both iOS and Android.
