VIRGIN MEDIA DOWN – UPDATE TWO: Virgin Media has revealed that they are investigating “an intermittent broadband issue” that hit customers today.

Speaking to, a spokesperson for the telecommunications giant said: “We’re currently investigating an intermittent broadband issue that lasted for a very short period of time earlier this evening.

“While services are currently back up and running, our teams are looking into the problem and will work flat out to fix it.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

VIRGIN MEDIA DOWN – UPDATE ONE: After this afternoon’s Virgin Media outage seemed to be resolved for the majority of people widespread downtime was reported once again.

Down Detector noticed another huge spike in Virgin Media down reports today, with this second outage taking place around 6.15pm BST.

This Virgin Media broadband issue once again was resolved for most people quite swiftly.

And in a post on Twitter the official @VirginMedia account told one customer they were working to fix broadband issues as soon as possible.

They tweeted: “I’m sorry that you experienced this issue, we are aware there was a fault. We are working hard to get this issue fixed asap”.

ORIGINAL: Virgin Media down reports have been flooding in with thousands of users reporting issues with their broadband internet today.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has this afternoon registered a huge spike in Virgin Media down reports.

Down Detector clocked in tens of thousands of Virgin Media down reports, with the outage mainly affecting users in England.

At its peak Down Detector registered around 30,000 reports of Virgin Media down. has contacted Virgin Media for comment on today’s reported broadband problems.

As the Virgin Media server problems hit users took to social networking site Twitter to report issues with their broadband.

One tweeted: “Who tripped over the plug that goes to the UK at Virgin Media. Entire country down”.

Another posted: “Virgin Media down for the entire UK”.

One added: “The whole of Virgin Media is down”.

And another wrote: “Virgin Media seem to be having a bad time.. even the website has gone down”.

As the broadband network issues hit users in droves turned to tweet the official @VirginMedia account to confirm if there were any server issues.

In messages to customers being hit with online connectivity the Twitter for the telecommunications giant revealed a “potential wider issue” hit today.

In one tweet they explained: “We’re aware of a potential wider issue and are working to get this fixed asap”.

Thankfully it appears that the Virgin Media outage – while widespread – was quickly resolved.

Reports on Down Detector of Virgin Media down has fallen from a peak of around 30,000 to just over 1,000.

While on Twitter those using the broadband provider’s services said their internet came back on after just under 10 minutes of inaction.
