UPDATE ONE: WhatsApp has been experiencing an outage for over half an hour.

As of 10.35am this morning, users started reporting issues with the service.

WhatsApp has still not commented on the matter.

ORIGINAL STORY: WhatsApp is the most popular third-party chatting app in the world – the service is used by millions around the globe.

But this morning it appears the app has been suffering an outage, meaning fans have been unable to access it.

Independent outage monitor Downdetector has registered over 850 reports at one time from WhatsApp users insisting the client is not working properly.

An outage map on the site showed European territories such as the UK, The Netherlands and Germany being hit the hardest by the problem.

In response to the issues plaguing the service, many of the WhatsApp faithful have jumped to Twitter to express their disappointment and seek reassurance it is not just their device suffering from the outage.

One said: “Damn, is WhatsApp down AGAIN?”

Another tweeted: “WhatsApp down — Not getting background notifications, some messages refusing to send, photos/statuses/stories not loading.”

A third said: “Is WhatsApp down?”

A fourth declared: “Is anyone else’s WhatsApp down?”

WhatsApp has not commenting on the issues affecting some of its users this morning.

It is currently unknown what has caused the outage.

It is worth noting the WhatsApp outage does not appear to be affecting all devices.

Express.co.uk was still able to access and use the service as normal during our testing.
