Guangming Valley International Conference Center. The two-day forum takes the “Guangming – Building Dreams for the Future” as a permanent theme and with “Creating visions”, “Setting sail” and “Pursing dreams” as its annual theme words. The forum takes the form of “1+9+3”, bringing together high-end intellectual resources from home and abroad, people from all walks of life in the fields of science and technology, education and industry to discuss the development trend of science and technology frontiers and the responsibility and mission of innovation and leadership.

Launched major science and technology infrastructure sharing initiative
The forum is clustered around the task of building a comprehensive national science center in the Greater Bay Area, to maximize the international and domestic influence of the Guangming Science City, and to help the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an early demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The forum took the “1+9+3” format, namely a main forum, nine parallel forums and three supporting events by on-site meeting, online participation and multi-end live broadcast.
The main forum invited academician Han Jiecai, president of Harbin Institute of Technology, academician Nancy Ip, president of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, academician Yan Nieng, head of the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, and academician Yang Xueming, vice president of Southern University of Science and Technology to give keynote speeches, and held a series of activities such as the inauguration ceremony of major science and technology infrastructure platforms, the inauguration ceremony of important foundations, and major science and technology infrastructure sharing initiatives.
The parallel forum focused on three major sections: scientific and technological research, industrial development, cooperation and exchange, setting up a new generation of artificial intelligence innovation and application seminar, biological imaging facilities and biomedical science and technology innovation forum, new materials science forum, the fourth engineering biological innovation conference, the third international brain science frontier and industry conference, new science and technology information services to support national science and technology innovation and industrial development strategy research forum, Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao collaborative Innovation Forum, Innovation Forum on the Planning, Construction and Operation of Large Scientific Devices, and Forum on the Construction and Development of Guangming Science City, and other nine events.
Supporting events include nature concert, regatta, slow cycling and other outdoor activities, providing a relaxed and intimate communication environment for the participants and injecting new elements such as sports and health for the Guangming Science City Forum.

This year’s forum is full of big names, science and technology, education and industry elites gathered together, the academicians focus on information, life, new materials three major disciplines and innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain, talent chain depth of integration, full exchange and discussion, produces a high-end “brainstorm”.
In the main forum, the participants delivered keynote speeches. Han Jiecai, President of Harbin Institute of Technology, delivered a speech with the theme of “Construction and Cooperation of Big Scientific Devices in China”; Nancy Ip, president of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, discussed the theme of “Opening up a New World of Cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen – Innovation and Technology”; Yang Xueming, vice president of Southern University of Science and Technology, gave a speech on free electron laser and its scientific applications and Yan Nieng, head of the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, delivered a speech entitled “Medical Science Research in Guangming Science City – Some Explorations to Bridge Basic and Clinical Sciences”. And Academician Yang Xueming made a speech on the topic of “Free Electron Laser and its Scientific Applications”.

Accelerate the construction of world-class science city
In July 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology formally approved the construction of the Guangming Science City – Songshan Lake Science City area as an early start area for a comprehensive national science center in the Bay Area, which is the fourth national approval after Shanghai Zhangjiang, Hefei Binhu and Beijing Huairou. While accelerating the construction of a world-class science city, Guangming Science City is in urgent need of building a comprehensive high-end communication platform with international influence. To this end, in accordance with the work of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen is scheduled to hold the Guangming Science City Forum in the first half of each year, with the permanent theme of “Bright – Building Dreams for the Future”, will help accelerate the construction of the Guangming Science City, further enhance the concentration, display and influence of the Guangming Science City, to help Shenzhen better build a globally important influence of Science and technology innovation center.
After the construction and development in recent years, the Guangming Science City focus on three major disciplines of information, life, new materials, top-level design and institutional arrangements gradually improved, major science and technology infrastructure to accelerate the advancement of innovation resources and innovation carriers to further agglomeration, playing an important role in the construction of the international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.
It is reported that a number of major science and technology infrastructure and innovation carriers in Guangming Science City have new progress. Among them, synthetic biology research, brain analysis and brain simulation, and material genome facilities will be put into operation this year. Precision medical imaging, special environmental materials and other facilities will start construction this year. And the second phase of supercomputing has started construction. Pengcheng Cloudbrain-Ⅲ is included in the national planning. Currently, the Guangming science city’s 24 major science and technology innovation carriers have been settled, 2 university campuses or transition campus officially opened, 9 major science and technology infrastructure, 2 provincial key labs, 11 scientific research platforms to speed up.
